Usha wants to design a sari and a blouse for working women. Explain how she can use all the principles of design in designing this dress. Use illustrations wherever needed.
Five Principles of design'
Balance: Balance is the equal distribution of weights. Symmetry between the left and right halves of the body garment is termed as the symmetrical balance. The purpose of balance is to bring a satisfying relationship between all the designs.
Proportion: The relative length of two parts of a garment is termed as a proportion. The degree and method of subordinating some part of the design to other are shown as a proportion.
Rhythm: Rhythm is the repeated use of lines or shapes to create a pattern Rhythm is achieved through:
Symmetrical design
Radiation
Repetition
Gradation
Emphasis: Emphasis creates a centre of interest by focusing the viewer's attention on a specific area of the garment. It is basically the use of subordination in various parts in order to emphasize and highlight certain parts.
Harmony: Harmony should be achieved through the ideal use of colour, lines shape and texture to give a feeling of oneness. Harmony means the relationship of different portions of a dress.
Workmanship has done:
- The measurement required is neckline and sleeve length.
- The hem of the blouse is stiffened to enable the garment to fall from shoulder.
- Piping finish is popular for blouses.
- Fine hook and eyes for blouses.
- Cap sleeves, Raglan sleeves can be designed for blouseSari material would be comfortable to that easy to carry.
- On both sides, the rolled hem should be done.
