Endocrine Glands - The Producers Of Chemical Messengers

Question
ICSEENIBI10003096

Give reasons for the following:

People living in hilly regions usually suffer from simple goitre.

Solution

In hilly regions, the soil is deficient in iodine, thus, the food grown in such soil is iodine deficient. Iodine is necessary for the synthesis of thyroid hormone and simple
goitre is caused by hyposecretion of thyroxine. The deficiency of iodine leads to less production of thyroxine and therefore, people living in hilly regions usually suffer from simple goitre.
