A body is thrown with a velocity of 9.8 m/s in the vertical upward direction. What is the velocity after one second?

Solution

We have, 
Initial velocity, u = 9.8 m/s 
Acceleration, a = - 9.8 m/s2
Time taken, t = 1 sec
Final velocity, v = ? 
Using the formula, 
Velocity after 1 sec, 
v = u + at 
   = 9.8 + (-9.8) x 1
   = 0
