'The consumer movement arose out of dissatisfaction of the consumers'. Justify the statement with arguments.
The consumer movement actually arose out of dissatisfaction of the consumers:
- Many unfair practices were practised by the sellers.
- No legal system was available to the consumers to protect them from exploitation in the marketplace.
- Moreover, it was presumed that it was the responsibility of consumers to be careful while buying a commodity or service.
- A major step taken by the Indian government in this regard was the enactment of the Consumer Protection Act 1986, popularly known as COPRA.
