Check which of the following are solutions of the equation x – 2y = 4 and which are not:

(1, 1)
Put x = 1 and y = 1 in (i), we get
x - 2y = 1 -2(1) = 1 - 2 = - 1, which is not 4.
$therefore$ (1, 1) is not a solution of (1).
