State any three features of industrial development in India before independence.

Following are the three features of industrial development in India before independence:
1. Coal mining progressed before independence. Railway line was laid between Mumbai and Thane in 1854.
2. In 1855 the first jute factory was set up in Hooghly valley near Kolkata with the foreign capital and enterprise. It gave an idea that modern industrial sector had its beginning only after middle of the 19th century.
3. The two world wars gave impetus to the development of a number of industries such as iron and steel industry, chemical, sugar etc. and other consumer goods industries.
