What happens when CH₃-Br is treated with KCN?

Solution

It is a nucleophilic substitution reaction. The nucleophile CN^- substitutes Br^- because cyanide is strong nucleophile than bromide. The reaction is as follows:

CH₃-Br+KCN --> CH₃-CN+HBr
