Factors which affect meal planning:
The economic condition of the family: Family will buy food depending upon their economic conditons.
Occupation: Depends on the physical work done by the members. A sedentary worker needs fewer calories as compared to a heavy worker.
Individual preference: People have their own preferences for particular foods. Before making the meals the meals nutritious and balanced it is more important to plan meals which are palatable and acceptable by the family members. For example, someone does not like an egg then banana can be given instead of it.
Your mother is finding it difficult to manage the monthly house hold expenditure within the monthly allowance sheisgiven. She also knows that this allowance cannot be increased for sometime tocome. In your opinion, what can be an alternative solution to this problem? Give at least eight suggestions.

i)Religion:Due to their religion they may abstain from eating certain foods. For example Jains’ do not eat onions and garlic, Muslims eat halal meat and do not eat pork, Hindus do not eat beef.
ii) Individual Preferences: They may change the form of food, according to likes and dislikes – if a person does not like the egg then they may be given banana or any other food item.
Meera is a lactating mother, who has been served potato pakoras and Imli chutney for evening tea. Analyse this meal and modify it to meet her nutritional needs. Justify the modification with the appropriate reason.
Analysis: Food is not suitable for her keeping in mind her stage. It is a fried dish which may cause chemical irritation in Gastrointestinal track.

Pakora: Besan chilla with spinach, paneer added in it as stuffing.
Imli Chutney: Mint, chutney, coriander chutney, groundnut or coconut chutney adds more Vitamin A and iron.
