Diversity In Living Organisms
How are the criteria for deciding divisions in plants different from the criteria for deciding the subgroups among animals?
The criteria for classification of plant kingdom into divisions depend upon:
(a) differentiation of plant body components,
(b) presence of transport (conduction) tissues,
(c) ability to produce seeds, and
(d) enclouser seeds in fruits.
Animals are organisms which are eukaryotic,
multicellular and heterotrophic. Their cells
do not have cell-walls. Most animals are
mobile. Thus they have different criteria for classification - they are classified based on the
extent and type of the body design
differentiation found.
