A Question of Trust
Did you begin to suspect, before the end of the story, that the lady was not the person Horace Danby took her to be? If so, at what point did you realise this, and how?
Yes, the readers tend to suspect before the end of the story that the lady was not the person Horace Danby took her to be. When the lady at the Shot over Grange asks the thief to open the safe herself because she has forgotten the numbers of the safe, it becomes conspicuous that the woman who pretends to be the lady of the house is tricking Horace.
