Define the term highway. Mention the importance of highway by giving three examples from different parts of the world.

Highways are metalled roads connecting distant places. These are constructed in such a way that vehicles could ply in an unobstructed manner.


Importance:


1.These roads are major medium of transportation from one part of the country to the other part.

2.In developed countries of North America and Europe, number of vehicles is larger and network is dense. A number of highways have been built in north-south directions to link Canada with Mexico.

3.Trans-Canadian Highway link St. John City in Newfoundland and Vancouver in British Columbia.

4.A historical highway in India is Sher Shah Suri Marg which is important from ancient times.
