A modulating signal is a square wave as shown in Fig. 

 

The carrier wave is given by c(t) = 2 sin ( 8 πt) volt.

(i) Sketch the amplitude modulated waveform:
(ii) What is the modulation index?


Solution

(i) The amplitude modulated waveform is given by superimposition of modulating signal on carrier wave and is shown below : 


(ii) We have, 

Am = 1 V , Ac = 2V .

Therefore, modulation index is given by, 

               μ = AmAC = 12 = 0.5
