Question
CBSEENPH12038074

The amplitude of the magnetic field part of a harmonic electromagnetic wave in vacuum is B0 = 510 nT. What is the amplitude of the electric field part of the wave?

Solution

Given,
                Amplitude of magnetic field, B0 = 510 nT = 510 × 10-9T
Speed of EM wave, C = 3 × 108 m s-1

For electromagnetic waves,
                     C = E0B0

i.e.,               E0 = C B0

                        = 3 × 108 ×510 × 10-9= 153 NC-1

which is the required amplitude of electric field.
