Solution

The net power absorbed by the circuit over a complete cycle is zero.
Power is not absorbed by pure inductor or capacitor but, it is only resistance which absorbs the power.

Therefore,

Power for pure inductor or capacitor circuit

= P_{av} = V_{eff} I_{eff} \cos (\pm \frac{π}{2})
