The ratio of the horizontal component to the resultant magnetic field of earth at a given place is $\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}} .$ What is the angle of dip at that place?

Solution

Given,

\frac{B_{H}}{B} = \frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}

And,

\cos δ = \frac{B_{H}}{B} \Rightarrow \cos δ = \frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}

i.e, Angle of dip,

δ = 45 ° .
