A 12 pF capacitor is connected to a 50 V battery. How much electrostatic energy is stored in the capacitor?

Solution

Given,
$Potential applied, V = 50 V Capacitance, C = 12 pF = 12 \times 10^{- 12} F$

$∴$ Electrostatic energy stored in the capacitor is given as
$U = \frac{1}{2} {CV}^{2} U = \frac{1}{2} \times 12 \times 10^{- 12} \times (50)^{2}$
$\Rightarrow$ $U = 1.5 \times 10^{- 8} J .$
