Question

A capacitor is charged through a potential difference of 200 V, when 0.1 C charge is stored in it. How much energy will it release, when it is discharged?

Solution

Given,
Potential difference across the capacitor-V = 200 V
charge stored in the capacitor-q = 0.1 C

Energy released on discharging = energy stored on charging = $\frac{1}{2} qV$
$= \frac{1}{2} \times 0.1 \times 200 = 10 J .$
