Consider the diagram in balance

8x = wy

⇒ $\frac{x}{y} = \frac{w}{8}$ ...(i)

Also, wx = 18 y

⇒ $\frac{x}{y} = \frac{18}{w}$ ....(ii)

Dividing Eq. (i) and Eq. (ii) we get

$\frac{\frac{x}{y}}{\frac{x}{y}} = \frac{\frac{w}{8}}{\frac{18}{w}}$

⇒ 1 = $\frac{w^{2}}{18 \times 8}$

⇒ w = $\sqrt{18 \times 8}$

w = 12 g
