A car moves a distance of 200 m. It covers the first half of the distance at speed 40 km/hr and second half of distance at speed v. The average speed is 48 km/hr. Find the value of v? 

Solution

We have, 
Distance moved, s = 2 km 
Velocity, u1 = 40 km/hr
u2 = v 
Average velocity = fraction numerator 0.2 over denominator 48 end fraction space equals space fraction numerator 0.1 over denominator 40 end fraction space plus space fraction numerator 0.1 over denominator v end fraction
On solving the equation, we get
v = 60 km/hr
