Motion In A Plane

Question
CBSEENPH11018551

A body is projected with velocity 19·6 m/s in horizontal direction. After what time the horizontal and vertical component of velocity will be the same?

Solution
Given, that the body is projected in the horizontal direction.
So, we have
straight u subscript straight x equals 0 space space space space space space space space and space space space space space straight u subscript straight y space equals space 19.6 space straight m divided by straight s
straight a subscript straight x equals 9.8 space straight m divided by straight s squared space space space space and space space space straight a subscript straight y equals 0
Now, the horizontal component of velocity at any instant is given by,
straight v subscript straight x equals space straight u subscript straight x space plus space straight a subscript straight x space straight t space equals space 0 plus 9.8 straight t space equals space 9.8 straight t space
Vertical component of velocity is,
straight v subscript straight y space equals space straight u subscript straight y plus straight a subscript straight y space straight t space equals space 19.6 space plus space 0 straight t space equals space 19.6 space
Since, horizontal and vertical component of velocity is the same, we have
        9.8 t = 19.6
i.e.,        t = 2s
