Motion In A Plane

Question
CBSEENPH11018546

A projectile is projected horizontally with velocity u. What will be the velocity of the projectile after time t ?

Solution
Let a projectile be projected with velocity u in horizontal direction.

If straight v subscript straight x space and space straight v subscript straight y are X and Y components of velocity at any instant, then
straight v subscript straight x equals straight u subscript straight x plus straight a subscript straight x straight t space space equals space u space a n d

straight v subscript straight y equals straight u subscript straight y plus straight a subscript straight y straight t space equals space gt

therefore space space space space straight v with rightwards arrow on top space equals space straight v subscript straight x straight i with hat on top space plus space straight v subscript straight y straight j with hat on top
Now manitude of resultant velocity is,
space space straight v equals square root of straight v subscript straight x superscript 2 plus straight v subscript straight y superscript 2 end root space
space space space equals space square root of straight u squared plus straight g squared straight t squared end root
The angle which the velocity vector makes with horizontal is,
tanθ equals gt over straight u
