Question
CBSEENPH11018463

A stone of mass 10 kg is placed on the horizontal floor and it is pulled by a force F acting at angle 45°. What is tension in the string when it breaks off from the ground? (g = 10m/s2).

Solution
Given,
Mass of the stone, m = 10kg
Angle at which the force is acting = 45o

When vertical component of the applied force is equal to the weight of stone, the stone will lose contact.
i.e., F sin45o = 100
rightwards double arrow space space straight F space equals space fraction numerator 100 over denominator sin space 45 to the power of straight o end fraction space equals space fraction numerator 100 over denominator begin display style bevelled fraction numerator 1 over denominator square root of 2 end fraction end style end fraction equals 100 square root of 2 space straight N
Therefore tension in string is 100 square root of 2 straight N.
