A 15N force accelerates the mass mwith acceleration 3m/s2, and m2 mass with acceleration 5 m/s2. What would be the acceleration, when 30N force is applied on tying the two masses together?

Solution

According to Newton's first law of motion,
                    F = ma
i.e.,              m = F/a 
Force acting on two bodies, F = 15 N
