When we gently push a book on a table, it stops after some distance, why?
When a book kept on a table is gently pushed, it stops after some distance because of the force of friction that acts between the surface of the book and the table. The friction opposes the motion of the book from moving forward. Hence, the relative movement between the two surfaces in contact is opposed.
