⇒a + b = 6 ... (1)
and a b = 8    (2)
From (1). b = 6 – a    ...(3)
∴from (2), a (6 –a) = 8 ;⇒ – a² + (6 a – 8 = 0
⇒    a – 6 a+ 8 = 0;⇒ (a – 2) (a – 4) = 0
⇒ a = 2, 4
∴ from (3). b = 6 – 2. 6–4 = 4. 2
∴we have a-=2. b = 4 : a = 4. b = 2
