Straight Lines

Question
CBSEENMA11014607

A coin is tossed twice. If the second toss results in a head, then a die is rolled. Write the sample space of the experiment.

Solution

A coin is tossed twice.
The sample space is: straight S subscript 1 equals left curly bracket HH comma space HT comma space TH comma space TT right curly bracket
If the second toss shows a head (TH, HH), then a die is rolled and its sample space is:
                                straight S subscript 2 equals left curly bracket 1 comma space 2 comma space 3 comma space 4 comma space 5 comma space 6 right curly bracket
If the second toss shows a tail (HT, TT) then there is no further action.
Hence, the combined sample space is:
          S = {HT, TT, HH1, HH2, HH3, HH4, HH5, HH6, TH1, TH2, TH3, TH4, TH5, TH6}
