Find: (i) odds in favour (ii) odds against the happening of the event.

Solution

straight P left parenthesis straight A right parenthesis space equals space 3 over 11 equals straight m over straight n

rightwards double arrow

m = 3K, n = 11K, n - m = 11K - 3K = 8K
∴ (i) odds in favour = m : n - m = 3K : 8K = 3 : 8
(ii) odds against = n - m : m = 8K : 3K = 8 : 3
