Question
CBSEENMA10009374

Two dice are thrown simultaneously. What is the probability that
(i) 5 will not come up on either of them?
(ii) 5 will come up on at least one?
(iii) 5 will come at both dice?

Solution
(i) Let A be the favourable outcomes that 5 will not come up on either of them Then

i.e. n(A) = 25
Therefore,   = 25 over 36

(ii) Let B be the favourable outcomes that 5 will come up on at least one dice. Then
B = {(1,5), (2, 5), (3, 5), (4, 5), (5,1),
(5,2), (5, 3) (5, 4), (5,5), (5, 6), (6,5)}
i.e., n(B) = 11
Therefore,  P(B) = 11 over 36

(iii) Let C be the event that 5 will come up on both the dice.
C = {5, 5}, i.e., n(C) = l
Therefore,  P(C)=1 over 30
