If p(x) = 5x3 - 2x2 + 3x - 2, then find the values of p(1) and p(0). Also, find the value of p(-1).

Solution

p(x) = 5x3 - 2x2 + 3x - 2
∴ p(1) = 5(1)3 - 2(1)2 + 3(1) - 2
= 5 - 2 + 3 - 2 = 4
and    p(0) = 5(0)3 - 2(0)2 + 3(0) - 2 = - 2
Also, p(- 1) = 5(- 1)3 - 2(- 1)2 + 3(- 1) - 2
= - 5 - 2 - 3 - 2 = - 12
