Explain why meiosis and gametogenesis are always interlinked?

Gametogenesis is the process of gamete production while meiosis is the process of reduction division in which the chromosome number is reduced to half. In order to produce gamete which are haploid in nature the cells have to undergo meiosis. The chromosome number is reduced to half in the two successive meiotic cycles. Thus, meiosis and gametogenesis are always interlinked.   - Wired Faculty
