Give scientific reasons for the following statements;

When an ovum gets fertilised, menstrual cycle stops temporarily in a 'woman'

Solution

When an ovum gets fertilised, the progesterone hormone level increases which prevent the development of another follicle and stops menstrual cycle. The endometrium wall of the uterus thickens and prepares for the implantation of the embryo. Since, the uterus wall does not degenerate, there is no menstruation.
