West - coast fishing accounts for 75% of the marine fish catch in India. 
India produces only three percent of world's fish catch due to following reasons: 
i. It has tropical climate in which fish cannot be preserved for a long time.

Two development programmes for the inland fisheries were initiated. These are Fish Seed Development Programme and Fish Farms Development Agency.
