With reference to the British rule in India, mention two economic factors, which became the causes of the First War of Independence, 1857.
i. An Act was passed in 1720 which prohibited the use of Indian silk and calicoes in England.

What did the British do to foster the policy of Divide and Rule, which gave rise to the formation of the Muslim League?
i. They encouraged the Muslims to start separate organizations.
