Hi-Speed Technologies Ltd is a Delhi based organization which is expanding its office setup to Chandigarh. At Chandigarh office campus, they are planning to have 3 different blocks for HR, Accounts and Logistics related work. Each block has a number of computers, which are required to be connected in a network for communication, data and resource sharing.
As a network consultant, you have to suggest the best network related solutions for them for issues/problems raised in (i) to (iv), keeping in mind the distances between various blocks/locations and other given parameters.

Shortest distances between various blocks/locations:

HR Block to Accounts Block 400 meters
Accounts Block to Logistics Block 200 meters
Logistics Block to HR Block 150 meters
DELHI Head Office to CHANDIGARH Office 270 Km

Number of Computers installed at various blocks are as follows:

HR Block 70
Account Block 50
Logistics Block 40

(i) Suggest the most appropriate block/location to house the SERVER in the
CHANDIGARH Office (out of the 3 Blocks) to get the best and effective
connectivity. Justify your answer.

(ii) Suggest the best wired medium and draw the cable layout (Block to Block) to efficiently connect various Blocks within the CHANDIGARH office compound.

(iii) Suggest a device/software and its placement that would provide data security for the entire network of CHANDIGARH office.

(iv) Which of the following kind of network, would it be
(a) PAN
(b) WAN
(c) MAN
(d) LAN

Solution

(i) HR Block is best for the SERVER location because it has maximum number of computers.
(ii) Best wired medium: Optical Fibre OR CAT5 OR CAT6 OR CAT7 OR CAT8 OR Ethernet Cable.

Question
CBSEENCO12011603

Differentiate between communication using Optical Fiber and Ethernet Cable in context of wired medium of communication technologies.

Solution

Optical Fiber  Ethernet Cable
These cables are made up of many thin strands of glass that transmit data using light signals. These cables are comprised of multiple copper wires twisted together that transmit digital information using electrical signals.
Information sent via optical fibre cables is much more difficult to intercept because light can’t be read in the same way signals sent via copper cabling can be.

Due to the way in which data is transmitted across Ethernet copper cabling, it is vulnerable to being intercepted. Ethernet switches can help to improve security.

There are two kinds of the optical fibre; single-mode and multi-mode.

There are two kinds of Ethernet cable; shielded pair and unshielded pair.

Question
CBSEENCO12011652

Give two examples of PAN and LAN type of networks.

Solution

Local area network is the network which is made within the office, room or building.
Examples of local area network (LAN)

  1. Networking in home, office.
  2. Networking between two computers.

Personal area network (PAN) used to connect different devices like we connect our pc, mobile and PAD to one another.
Example of personal area network is

  1. Sharing of data via Bluetooth.
  2. Creating Hotspot.
