State the basic requirement for sexual reproduction? Write the importance of such reproductions in nature.
The basic requirements for sexual reproduction:
Sexual reproduction involves fusion of male and female gametes coming from both the parents. In the sexual reproduction, a new individual is formed by the fusion of two haploid gametes, one from the male parent and the other from the female parent.
The importance of sexual reproduction:
(i) The Combination of DNA from two different individuals lead to increase in genetic variation in the offsprings.
(ii) This leads to diversity in the population which helps in natural selection.
Acquired Traits | Inherited Traits |
Traits developed during lifetime. | Traits present since the birth. |
Cannot be inherited that does not pass to the offsprings | Are inherited by the offsprings. |
Not in the genes. for eg behaviour, the art of playing an instrument | In the genes. For example hair colour, height. |
Explain with the help of an example each, how the following provides evidence in favour of evolution:
Homologous organs
The organs with same structural design and origin but different functions are called. homologous organs
