A map is a diagrammatic representation of the whole or a part of the earth and its surface features at a given scale.

 The term cadastral is derived from French word ‘cadaster’ meaning register of territorial property. The cadastral maps are drawn to register the ownership of landed property by demarcating the boundaries of fields.

The major directions north, south, east and west are called cardinal points.
